"The Big Tear, Sept. 11"

                                  Print, hand-signed, image 11" x 8", matted 14" x 17"

Even though Manhattan’s silhouette will never be the same, in our hearts and minds we will see the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center forever as metaphorically transformed into the world’s largest tombstones.

The crying Statue of Liberty expresses our sadness over the incomprehensible and inhumane sacrifice of thousands of innocent lives because of deep hatred and religious fanaticism of some deranged minds. And yet, our nation has and will become stronger in togetherness.

The painting shows the skyline of Lower Manhattan in purple, with the outline of the Twin Towers where once the World Trade Center stood, painted in mourning and innocent white, with a golden aura to commemorate the thousands of people who perished there. Behind the World Trade Center is a huge black cloud wherein the Big Apple is depicted on the left and a face is seen on the right. Overlooking Manhattan is our great symbol, the Statue of Liberty, with closed or empty eyes, in unspeakable distress and a tear running down her face, symbolically standing for the tears we all shed. At the same time, the Statue appears to have taken on new strength and resolve in upholding the ideal of freedom.
